Poor Sophie!

Yesterday, I had just started a blog post and Sophie pawed at the door to come in.  I look at the door and I notice something on it... I get closer.  Blood.  

Sophie had somehow cut the pad of her paw outside.  She's outside in the backyard alone all the time; Blake and I love that she goes outside and is able to amuse herself without us.  However, yesterday, it wasn't such a good thing since she cut herself on something and we can't figure out what she cut herself on.  I feel like such a bad dog mommy!

Unfortunately, the above picture doesn't do it justice because the cut goes to the skin and the black pad actually was coming off when then vet touched it and moved it.  Blake met me at the vet, she needed stitches and now has a soft cast on her foot until next Thursday.  She had to be sedated and was so out of it when she came back out to us.  I take her back to the vet next week; they take the cast off and see if she can keep it off or if she needs a new one.  The stitches have to stay in three weeks because of the location of the cut.  Blake and I will be on our honeymoon so we're going to have to ask for a favor from our friends or family to take her to the vet.  

The hard part is now keeping it dry and helping her up and down the stairs.  And, we have a lot of stairs in our house!  She slips around a lot on the floors since we have hardwood in the majority of the house.
